Research Islam and peaceful pluralism through a part-time internship in Fall 2018.
Now accepting applications for a fall 2018 part-time internship with the Islam and Religious Freedom Action Team at the Religious Freedom Institute (RFI). This will be approximately 5-10 hours a week, September to December (exact dates TBD). This is an unpaid position.
Assist Ismail Royer of RFI with research for a new book, The Art of Living Together, on the Islamic virtues of living peacefully together in diverse societies. The work will include:
mostly researching and reading classical Islamic texts in Arabic
some research into contemporary writings and videos by religious scholars on topics related to Islam and peaceful pluralism
The successful applicant will have:
experience in the study of Islam
native or near-native speaker of Arabic, able to study texts in Classical Arabic
keen interest in learning more about religious freedom
ability to work independently
ability to meet deadlines
Applicants in the Washington, DC area who can come in person for part of one day a week to work at the Religious Freedom Institute (1050 30th St. NW) will be prefered, though long-distance applicants who are only available to work remotely will be considered.
